SPRING 2014
MEETING SCHEDULE

We understand asking for help can be very intimidating. Here are some resources available to you if you ever need them.

04/07

ACTIVE MINDS RETREAT

3:00-4:30pm in England Evanc, BSC

Our first meeting of the quarter kicks off with our members retreat. All are welcome to attend and learn what the club is all about and how you can get involved. We will also focus on developing connections between new and old members.

04/15

HEALTHY MINDS HEALTHY HEARTS

As a part of the days full list of events (including HealthFEST and a nutrition workshop), Active Minds will host guest speaker Janelle Montano who will share her story of depression and her journey to recovery. Learn more about Janelle here:

04/16

4:00-7:30pm in Orion AB, BSC

This suicide prevention training is primarily for residents of University Housing or the Village. Roomates can often be the first to notice signs of distress and through this training they can learn how to be the first to respond in a crisis. SAFE TALK SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING

The purpose of Active Minds is to:
• empower students to speak openly about mental health in order to educate others and encourage help-seeking
• change the culture at Cal Poly Pomona and promote mental health-awareness, education, and advocacy
• provide information and resources regarding mental health and mental illness, while encouraging students to seek help as soon as needed
• host campus-wide events and programs to remove the stigma that surrounds mental health issues and create a comfortable environment for an open conversation about mental health issues across our campus

If you or a loved one ever have thoughts of suicide, please call this number, 1-800-273-TALK. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline offers counselors at any time of the day or night to help you during your crisis.

Stigma...say what?? If you do not have a background in social science this may be an unfamiliar concept.

When you are worried a friend may be depressed or have another serious mental health concern, it might be hard to start a conversation.

We are currently updating an online database for mental health resources. Please check back soon.
